"The Mouse" for the first time in the African Cup in all matches

The Confederation of African Football ("CAF") announced today that the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins next Sunday, will see the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in all 52 matches for the first time in the competition's history.

The African Nations Cup will be held in Cameroon from next Sunday until the sixth of February.

Previously, VAR technology was used in the African Nations Cup, starting with the quarter-final matches in the last edition in Egypt.

In its statement, CAF stressed that the use of technology in the current competition "is not only to improve the image of refereeing, but also for the presence of African referees at a world level, and the application of VAR technology in all 52 matches in Cameroon is a step in the right direction."

It is worth noting that a list of 63 elite referees will manage the African Nations matches, including women such as Salima Mukasanga (Rwanda), Karen Atemzabong (Cameroon), Fatiha Al Jarmoumi and Bouchra Karboubi (Morocco).

The list consists of 24 referees, 31 assistant referees, and eight video technology referees from 36 countries, in addition to two referees from the Confederation of North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) as part of the talent exchange program between the two federations.
