The German tennis men missed the semifinals of the ATP Cup.

Olympic champion Alexander Zverev and Co. lost to Canada on Thursday in Sydney and thus suffered their second defeat.

The preliminary round was already clear before the match because Great Britain had won 2-1 in the first game of the day against the USA.

Because Germany had lost to the British at the beginning, a win against Canada would not have been enough to advance because of the poorer direct comparison with Great Britain.

Instead, Great Britain will now face Russia on Saturday (7.30 a.m. / CET).

In the first semi-final on Friday (7.30 a.m. / CET), Spain and Poland will play against each other.

The defeat against Canada was already clear after the two singles.

After Jan-Lennard Struff initially lost 6: 7 (5: 7), 6: 4, 3: 6 despite a strong performance against Denis Shapovalov, Zverev also had to defeat 4: 6, 6: 4 in the top individual Felix Auger-Aliassime , 3: 6 beaten.

For the German number one it was the first defeat of the new year.
