Mortada Mansour was retrial on charges of insulting Al-Khatib and Al-Ahly’s board of directors

The Egyptian "Cairo 24" website said that the investigation authorities had challenged the ruling issued by the Economic Court last December 26 acquitting Mortada Mansour, president of Zamalek Club, of the charge of insulting and defaming Mahmoud Al-Khatib, Al-Ahly's board and board chairman.

The investigation authorities based the appeal on the verdict on a first court error in applying the law, and the accusation against the accused was proven.

The Code of Criminal Procedure stipulates that in the event of an appeal by the investigation authorities against the acquittal, the case shall be returned to the state it was in before the judgment was issued, and the Economic Misdemeanors Court of Appeal shall hear the case again.

The March 26 session was set to review the case in which the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zamalek is facing charges of insulting and defaming the Al-Ahly Board of Directors and the club’s president, Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, through two video clips he posted on his official page on the social networking site Facebook on January 7, 2019, and January 9, 2019, which included Abuses of Al-Ahly Club and its Board of Directors.
