Charlotte Kalla has previously competed in three Olympics.
There she has won three golds (one in each championship) and taken six silver, and she is the reigning Olympic champion in skiathlon.

The only real candidate who stood against Kalla was sprint-oriented Johanna Hagström, who won the points competition in the Tour de Ski.
But she had given up hope in advance of getting a place.

One is to try to take the first VC victory and the sprint cup is quite interesting.
It is a new year with new opportunities, Hagström said during the Tour de Ski to SVT Sport.

I want to go sprint and want to go to the Olympics to take a medal.
I do not want to go there for a top 20, 30 position.
It is in the sprint that I can take a medal, Hagström continued.
