Controversy continues over Novak Djokovic's entry into Australia.

The Serb announced on Tuesday that he was flying to Australia after obtaining a medical exemption to play the Australian Open despite not having revealed whether he is vaccinated or not.

However, upon landing at Melbourne airport, number one was blocked due to a visa problem.

According to the Australian press, the nine-time champion of the first big of the year would not have filled in the correct form for the type of visa requested.

The federal customs service contacted the government of the state of Victoria, where Melbourne is located, when they found that Djokovic's team had requested "the wrong type of visa," reported

The Age

.

Djokovic was seeking to enter the country with a work visa that "needed authorization from the Victorian government," according to

The Australian

newspaper .

Jaala Pulford

, Victoria's state minister, said in a tweet on Wednesday that his state had refused to support that request.

According to

The Age

, despite that rejection, Djokovic should probably be allowed to get off his plane and into Melbourne.

This visa problem would delay the procedures but would not prevent your access to Australia

.

On Tuesday, Djokovic had announced the obtaining of a medical exemption to play the Australian Open (January 17-30), something confirmed by the Australian Tennis Federation (TA).

However, from the Australian government they insist that there will be no exceptions with the tennis player and will have to justify why he cannot be vaccinated against covid-19.

"Anyone who wants to enter Australia must comply with our strict border requirements," said Australian Interior Minister Karen Andrews, recalling that those who have not received the full schedule of the vaccine

must demonstrate that they cannot receive this drug for reasons to avoid 14-day quarantines

.

And along the same lines, Australian Prime Minister

Scott Morrison

told reporters in Canberra that "if that evidence is insufficient, then he will not be treated differently and

he will be sent home on the next plane

."

Government guidelines point to

temporary exemptions

from entering the country to people who have "a serious medical condition", who cannot be vaccinated because they have contracted covid-19 in the previous six months or have had an adverse reaction to this drug, among others.
