It got messy before the plane would take off.

Several members of the Russian squad were seriously intoxicated and refused to wear mouth guards, and a Russian leader is even, according to Czech team leader Otakar Cerny, smoking in the hallway on his way to the plane.

Several players brought their own alcohol that they drank, and refused to stop despite several instructions.

It all ended with all players and leaders in both Russia and the Czech Republic being expelled from the plane, and not allowed to travel home.

Violated code of ethics?

The incident is now being investigated by the International Ice Hockey Federation, IIHF.

Canadian Sportsnet reports that the IIHF collects information from "relevant authorities", in order to then determine whether Russia's actions violated the IIHF's code of ethics.

Meanwhile, Calgary police have now confirmed to the Calgary Herald that they were involved in the case, and that their staff removed members of the Russian team from the plane.

Criticized by the former national team captain

Leaders of the Russian JVM team have denied large parts of the accusations leveled against them, but this has not prevented them from escaping criticism at home.

For example, they have been sawn by former national team captain Vladimir Krikunov, who now coaches the KHL team Dinamo Riga.

- They are young and clueless, and do not think that they represent the whole country.

This is a matter of education, he says, according to sport.ru.
