During the night towards Thursday, Swedish time, the IIHF held a press conference, where they opened for an implementation of the JVM, which they continue to choose to call canceled, at a later time.

- We will take a month and see how we can do the event in 2022. Maybe we can come up with a nice surprise.

I think the players deserve that, says IIHF president Luc Tardif at a press conference.

- We do not give up.

At the beginning of January, we will work with the organizing committee and see if it can be resolved.

It's easy to say and sometimes not easy to do.

It will, if it happens, be after the World Cup, maybe in June, July or August, but when exactly we do not know.

Tardif emphasizes, however, that he can not promise that the championship will be over.

He also explains that the IIHF understood that the now canceled edition of the JVM would be a different tournament.

"Our whole basic idea ..."

Olof Östblom, competition manager at the Swedish Ice Hockey Association (SIF), says that the Swedish association will discuss whether to press for the tournament to continue or not.

- We have first and foremost focused on the group and the players and leaders to be informed as well as possible and we will arrange so we will go home and get the team home.

We have not had time to think about what will happen next.

It will above all be a discussion within the IIHF, says Östblom.

- Our whole basic idea is to play ice hockey and we want to play with all national teams.

Right now we have dealt with the emergency and the pandemic.

Of course, I think we want to play ice hockey, then we will look at and discuss the possibilities.

The IIHF has been forced to cancel other championships, including the JVM for U18 girls which was to be played in January.

The mentioned championship will also be discussed next month.
