The European Championship was in its second day.

The crowd was back at the Park.

Kasper Hjulmand made his first championship as the Danish national team captain and Denmark would face Finland.

It was a party in Copenhagen.

But just before the break, football suddenly became insignificant with horrible scenes in front of the home crowd.

Danish star Christian Eriksen collapsed, had a cardiac arrest and lay dead for a short time on the pitch.

The pictures that were wired out were a Danish team in trauma, which stood in a circle around their teammate.

Christian Eriksen was taken to hospital and his condition was later stabilized and his life was saved.

Kasper Hjulmand was left at the Park and would lead the team in the match that would be resumed.

That was the message that came from Uefa.

- We got the option to play immediately, or to play the day after twelve o'clock, and it was a scenario we could not imagine, says Kasper Hjulmand to SVT Sport.

UEFA's decision was heavily criticized, but responded to the criticism by saying that they had no other options.

"The fact that the players need 48 hours of rest between matches meant that we had no other options," commented Uefa.

- All meaning of football disappeared here and there.

It was a difficult day and difficult minutes.

Simon Kjaer said he could not play anymore.

But we tried to gather, and we said we can only do our best.

The match resumed.

Finland won 1-0.

- I do not understand the regulations.

If we had had three corona falls, we would have had to postpone the match.

But a cardiac arrest and a player is about to die, then we will not get a postponed match.

We still have to deal with people, says Hjulmand.

You can watch the European Championship chronicle in its entirety on SVT1 on 30 December at 20.00.
