• Restrictions There is already a fine in the Central District

On

January 1

comes with important news for

drivers in Madrid

and also for those who visit.

This Saturday

Madrid Low Emission Zone

(Madrid ZBE)

comes into force

, so many vehicles will be

prohibited from entering and circulating in the capital

of Spain (not only the central almond).

Specifically,

all cars without a DGT sticker

(or with environmental classification A)

that are not domiciled or do not appear in the register

of the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles (IVTM) of the Madrid City Council will be prohibited from

accessing and circulating on the roads public urban areas inside the M-30

, excluding the M-30 itself.

Vintage gasoline and diesel cars

Vehicles without a DGT label (or with environmental classification A) are those vehicles that run on

gasoline registered before 2000 and

diesel

vehicles registered before 2006

, which are the most polluting and lack an environmental label. However, unlabeled cars that are registered in the city of Madrid may continue to circulate inside the M-30.

The prohibition only affects foreigners

who do not have a badge.

Vehicles with labels B and C can also enter, park and circulate

inside the M-30 without limitations, except those specified in

Madrid Distrito Centro

(what was previously known as

Madrid Central

), where they can only enter

if they park in a parking lot for public or private use

.

Exceptions

Vehicles without a DGT sticker that are intended for

urban distribution of goods

(trucks and delivery vans)

are

exempt until January 1, 2025

.

Vehicles specially adapted to be driven by or for the transfer of

people with reduced mobility

are also exempt

, as long as they are registered in the Madrid ZBE access management system and legally display the respective

TEPMR

.

Finally, vehicles that are recognized as

historical

vehicles may also enter Madrid ZBE

and, of course,

emergency vehicles

(fire fighting) and

armed forces

.

Historic cars can also circulate inside the M-30.

Two month notice period

Madrid City Council grants

two months of notice

from the entry into force of the new LEZ before the

cameras

installed in the central almond begin to issue

sanctions

, as established in article 242 of the regulations.

Therefore,

from January 1 to March 1 at 11:59 p.m.

, the photo-red devices will not fine the offenders, but the administration will send them an

information letter

so that they are notified.

Controls and fines of 90 euros until March 20

Of course, the City Council has recalled that

random controls of mobility agents will

also be established

who will be able to report

vehicles with limited passage and circulation.

"Access control will be carried out automatically and

also manually if at any time an agent of the authority stops a car

and it does not meet the requirements to circulate in the area. In the latter case, and although the infraction occurs in the warning phase, it

may be denounced for breach of the ordinance,

"reports the municipal council.

fine of 90 euros for minor traffic offense

.

But as of March 21 (included), and in accordance with the

modification of the Traffic Law

, published in the BOE on December 21,

the offense will be considered serious and will carry a penalty of 200 euros

.

, the

Plaza Elíptica Special Protection Low Emissions Zone

came into operation

, where access and circulation to

vehicles without a label (or environmental classification A)

within the delimited area

is also restricted

. The camera access control system will work for

two months in the warning phase

, but

random controls

will also be established

for mobility agents who will be able to report

vehicles with limited passage and circulation, as reported by the Madrid City Council.

The

residents

of the districts of

Abrantes, Opañel and Comillas (Carabanchel) of Moscardó and Zofío (Usera)

vehicles A

acquired before the April 1, 2021

are not affected by the new restrictions.

In addition, the City Council reminds that

vehicles with labels B and C can enter, park and circulate

inside the ZBEDEP without limitations.

Since December 22, the access and circulation criteria for merchants and residents in the Central District ZBEDEP have also been equalized.
