The tournament started in Canada on December 26 and was supposed to last until December 5.

Competitions were held in Red Deer and Edmonton.

On December 29, Russia was awarded a technical defeat from Slovakia after the discovery of a coronavirus infection in the team of striker Matvey Michkov.

Initially, the match was to take place in the Canadian Red Deer on the night of December 29-30 at 00:30 Moscow time.

Prior to that, for the same reason, the matches between Finland - Czech Republic and the USA - Switzerland were canceled.

As a result, the tournament was canceled.

Earlier, Olympic champion Darius Kasparaitis admitted that he did not understand why it was necessary to start the MFM-2022 in hockey.
