The draw for the African Champions... an Egyptian-Moroccan clash... and Al-Ahly faces Mars and Al-Hilal

The group stage draw of the African Champions League, which was drawn today at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, made the Egyptian Al-Ahly the most crowned player in the tournament with ten titles, against South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns and the Sudanese Al-Hilal and Al-Marikh.

Tunisia's Esperance was also drawn against Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel and Algeria's Chabab Belouizdad, while Morocco's Raja clashed with Algeria's ES Setif, and Egypt's Zamalek clashed with Moroccan Wydad.

The draw ceremony was conducted by the Egyptian Khaled Nassar, the director of competitions in CAF, with the participation of the South African Pitso Musimani, the technical director of Al-Ahly of Egypt.

The African Champions League groups came according to the results of the draw as follows:


Group One: Al Ahly of Egypt, Mamelodi Suns Downs of South Africa, Al Hilal of Sudan and Al Marreikh of Sudan.


Group B: Raja of Morocco, Houria Conakry of Guinea, ES Setif of Algeria and Amazolo of South Africa.


Group C: Tunisia's Esperance, Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel, Algeria's Chabab Belouizdad and Botswana's Joaneng Galaxy.


Group D: Wydad of Morocco, Zamalek of Egypt, Petro Atlético of Angola and Sagrada Esperanca of Angola.

The 16 teams qualified for the group stage were divided into four levels, and the first level included Al-Ahly, Esperance, Wydad and Raja.


While the second level included Zamalek, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al-Najm and Houria Conakry, the third level included Al-Hilal, ES Setif, Shabab Belouizdad, Petro Atlético, and the fourth, Al-Merikh, Guaneng Galaxy, Sagrada Esperanza and Amazolo.

The first round of group stage matches will be held on February 11 and 12, the second on February 18 and 19, and the third on February 25 and 26.

While the fourth round will be held on March 11 and 12, the fifth round will be held on the 18 and 19 of the same month, and the last sixth round will be held on the first and second of April.

Al-Ahly of Egypt holds the record for the championship with ten titles, including two titles in the last two editions, while Zamalek won the title five times, Esperance four times, Raja three times, and Wydad and ES Setif twice.
