Courage alone does not make the Fraport Skyliners a winner.

That was seen in the Bundesliga home game against Chemnitz at Brancou Badio, which was lost 78:82 after extra time.

At the end of regular time, the agile player from Senegal seemed to be on his way to becoming the acclaimed match winner in front of 1250 spectators in the ballroom.

But instead of preferring the simple lay-up in the supposed final act at 70:70, the 22-year-old tried to stuff the ball into the Chemnitz basket with one hand - unsuccessfully.

Because the final five minutes went to Saxony with 12: 8, the penultimate complained of his tenth failure in the 13th basketball game of the season.

Badio had only hit two of 14 throws (five points in total) when he wanted to decide the match for the Skyliners. Nevertheless, playmaker Will Cherry passed the ball to Badio in the 40th minute of play, who was ready to play again after a several-week injury break. Coach Diego Ocampo explained the move afterwards by saying that Badio was “brave” in the final minutes of an encounter.

When assessing the tricky situation, the bad throws made by Badio for the head coach took a back seat. In comparison, Len Schoormann (13) was much further up in the final statistics. The international had hit four of his seven throws before entering the exciting final phase of regular time without him. After he had not had any success with a lay-up at 75:75 in overtime, Ocampo replaced 19-year-old Schoormann again.

“We had our ups and downs,” said the head coach.

“Unfortunately we haven't trained together very often in the formation.

So we weren't in the best of shape.

So we rotated and changed a lot. ”The Spaniard was of the opinion that“ in the end it was a fifty-fifty game ”.

Where, to their chagrin, the Skyliners couldn't keep their nerve.

“In the end we lost control.” Lukas Wank agreed with his coach: “In extra time we couldn't play a good game at the last minute and then we lost our heads,” said the national player angrily.

In the final accounts, Frankfurt had eleven more throws from the field than Chemnitz, plus five more free throws.

The overall victory nevertheless went to the opponent, as the Skyliners only hit 25 of their 72 throws.
