The United States defeated Slovakia in the JVM premiere

Reigning champion and one of the favorites for the gold.

This year's JVM also opened with a victory, even though it was tough against Slovakia.

However, it started well for the USA and it was the game in numerical superiority that paved the way for the victory.

First, Matthew Knies opened the scoring in powerplay in the middle of the first period.

Nicely played by Logan Cooley, Knies was able to score the lead goal.

Just over a minute and a half later, it was time for a new goal in powerplay.

Matthew Coronato found Mackie Samoskevich who pushed there 2-0.

After an even start to the match, the USA really played out in the middle, where Landon Slaggert could also push it 3-0.

With a high tempo, a lot of mobility and nice combinations, it was difficult for Slovakia.

But Slovakia woke up in the third period.

Martin Chromiak reduced twice and in the closing seconds they were extremely close to getting a draw.

But the United States held off and won 3-2.
