Shiffrin misses the upcoming World Cup competitions in Lienz, Austria, which begins with Tuesday's giant slalom.

“I just wanted to say that I feel good, but unfortunately I have tested positive for covid.

I follow the rules and have isolated myself and I will miss Lienz ", writes Shiffron on Twitter and adds:

"See you next year".

On December 21 and 22, Shiffrin and Hector shared the podium in Courchevel, where they finished first and second in the giant slalom, with the American as the winner on the first day and Hector on the second day.

They were also hugged in the target area.

Difficult to assess risk

Lars Melin says that there is no concern in the Swedish squad in Lienz after Shiffrin's message.

- We have tests continuously and we have not been to the same place as her during Christmas, he says.

- And they say that the risk of infection outdoors is quite small, so we see no risk.

However, he admits that it is a bit difficult to assess risks right now given the new corona variant omikron.

- Everyone is double vaccinated and most people who test positive have no symptoms, he says.

Competition manager infected

Two people from the competition staff in Courchevel, including competition director Peter Gerdol, tested positive after the competitions.

However, people who have been in their vicinity have not been infected.

According to Melin, testing before each competition, and after the competitions for the World Cup, moves on to a new competition venue, the only corona tools that the International Ski Federation Fis has.

Plus that all national teams live like in a bubble at the competition venue.

- But to be honest, Fis has no control over the riders, it is your own responsibility that applies.

But we in the national team have our own good protocol when we travel and move and are out in the community.

We did one last year and have updated it again.

Of course, the alpine national laws must also follow each country's restrictions.

- They are almost tougher this year (than last season).

Fine of 99,000

Melin says that in Switzerland you can get a fine of the equivalent of 99,000 kronor if you do not follow the restrictions.

- And in Austria, where you are closed more, you must be PCR-tested or triple vaccinated to get in.

And you have to have a mouth guard if you are two or more in the car.

On Tuesday, giant slalom in Lienz awaits the alpine ladies, and slalom on Wednesday.
