The Lions, Finland, reached the semifinals of the JVM last year.

There it stopped against the USA - but in the end they landed a bronze after a victory against Russia in the battle for the third prize.

This year they had the honor of starting the tournament which is played in Canada and Germany was the opposition in Group A.

Before tonight's meeting, the nations had faced each other 23 times - and all of them have meant Finnish victory.

And the lion princes also won today.

The first goal came in the first minute of the 13th minute when Brad Lambert sent the puck to Samuel Helenius who could put 1-0.

The German equalizer then came after three minutes of play in the second period when Jan-Luca Munzenberger in powerplay mode could score.

The joy was short-lived for Germany.

Joel Matta made it 2-1 just a few minutes later.

In the third period, the same constellation then repeated as in the first goal of the match.

Lambert found Helenius and the 3-1 goal was a fact.

Sweden starts the JVM against Russia later on Sunday night.
