Swedish sport is in the middle of a battle that tears up infected wounds within the movement.

It is about the triathlon association's motion to the Swedish Sports Confederation's meeting this spring, about introducing a 10 percent ceiling for the distribution of sports money - a ceiling that only hits the biggest sport football, but was adopted by a good margin.

- We estimate that we will lose around SEK 20 million, says the Football Association's chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson to SVT Sport.

How do you see that it is money that you have not received yet?

- These are resources for which we had planned a lot of activities, not least in our districts.

Paradoxical RF meetings

The big paradox is that the RF AGM 2019 voted to abolish the existing 10 percent ceiling, and thus give football more money - but from 2022. A year that has not yet occurred when the 2021 RF AGM reintroduced the recently abolished 10 percent cap, whereupon football threatened to leave RF and drew the matter to the arbitration board that is currently working on the case and is expected to come up with a decision in February or March.

The whole thing may seem like a mess.

- If you have a living democracy, you can think a little differently.

The important thing is that you are old enough to come to a decision, says RF's chairman Björn Eriksson to SVT Sport.

RF's own statutes state that the AGM's decision must be implemented, and thus raise questions about the review in the form of an arbitration board.

The ski association's chairman Karin Mattsson Weijber - who was previously chairman of RF - writes to SVT Sport that "it is very unfortunate and remarkable that we have ended up in a situation where the validity of a general meeting decision is questioned via arbitration".

The fencing association is seeking a civil court

And the fencing association is so critical of the arbitration board that they have reported the entire case to the Administrative Court, ie a civil court.

- The decisions made at a National Sports Meeting must be implemented, says the Fencing Association's chairman Otto Drakenberg to SVT Sport.

What are the consequences if these rules are not followed?

- What rules must then be followed?

It will be completely arbitrary.

RF chairman Björn Eriksson responds to this briefly:

- I am completely convinced that there is no hearing for us to take things like this to courtrooms.

By the way, did you think that RF and the Swedish Football Association are in conflict?

No then, it was a majority of the RF's sports federation that voted down a minority where both the Football Association and the RF were centrally included.

But at the same time, football has flagged for a break from RF, unless the controversial arbitration board makes a decision that fits - sometime this winter.

- We want to analyze the consequences of possibly leaving the Swedish Sports Confederation.

The analysis will be done and we will return with information when we are finished, says the Football Association's chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson.
