Patrick Vieira isolated after testing positive for COVID-19

Crystal Palace announced today, Sunday, that its French coach, Patrick Vieira, has contracted the Corona virus, and therefore he will miss his team’s match against Tottenham in the nineteenth stage of the Premier League.

The club added, "His Welsh assistant, Osian Roberts, will replace Vieira in today's match (Sunday)."

Vieira had revealed on Christmas Eve that his team had "two cases", but that the outbreak had worsened over the past two days.

However, the League did not consider this enough to reschedule the match and refused to postpone Sunday's match.

Corona cases recently broke out in the English Premier League, which necessitated the postponement of three matches, including Liverpool and Leeds, on the “Boxing Day” day, which is famous for the English Premier League with a historical tradition, as its matches are held the day after Christmas.

Aston Villa had announced on Saturday that coach Steven Gerrard had contracted the virus, and that he would miss the next two matches for his team against Chelsea on Sunday and against Leeds on Tuesday.

The number of matches that were postponed in the last two weeks due to the Corona virus increased to 13, while the Premier League clubs, during a meeting of their association and the league, refused the option to suspend the season temporarily in order to limit the spread of the virus among the players and the technical, medical and administrative staff in the teams.

"Covid-19" is striking strongly in Britain recently, as the United Kingdom recorded 122,000 new infections on Friday, according to the daily report of the health authorities, in a new record number caused by the mutant Omicron.
