It was during Christmas Eve that the IIHF announced that the JVM for U18 girls would be canceled.

The reason is, according to the International Federation, the new coronary restrictions.

Now the Swedish junior national team has written an open letter to the IIHF in which the enormous dissatisfaction is expressed.

The intention of the letter is for the association to find new playing dates.

Do we infect more than the boys?

The IIHF announced that all tournaments during the month of January will be canceled.

Why not re-plan, have advancement as a suggestion at least?

It is also noteworthy that the boys' final will be played on the 6th of January, while our tournament would have started on the 8th.

From the corona's point of view, what changes in two days? ”, Writes the U18 national team in the appeal.

"We feel diminished"

The junior national team points out that they accept and have respect for the pandemic, but question how the boys' JVM, which begins on December 26, can be carried out unhindered.

“The guys have also been in a bubble for 10 days to avoid COVID to the highest degree, which is understandable.

But what prevents us from going through the same thing?

We believe that it is a question of gender equality and this is injustice ”.

The open letter questions how the IIHF with such decisions can live up to the ambition to get young girls to continue playing hockey.

“We feel diminished.

This is discrimination in our eyes ”.

"Hopefully, a measure will be found to enable hundreds of girls to achieve their dreams."

The championship was supposed to take place between 8-15 January, in Linköping and Mjölby.
