Corona causes the postponement of the two matches between Liverpool and Leeds and Wolverhampton with Watford

The English Football Association announced today, the postponement of the matches of Wolverhampton with Watford and Liverpool with Leeds United, in the ninth round of the Premier League, which is scheduled to be held next Sunday on “Boxing Day”.

The League stated on its website that "Following requests for postponement from Leeds and Watford due to the Corona virus, the League's Board of Directors met this morning and regrettably agreed to postpone the matches of the two affected clubs on Boxing Day."

She added, "The two matches Wolverhampton with Watford, and Liverpool with Leeds United, scheduled for next Sunday, will be postponed." The association stated that the council, today, was able to take the decision before Boxing Day to clarify matters for the clubs and fans. "We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion caused in the fans' festive plans," the association added. The League added: "The League recognizes that the decision to postpone the two matches will leave fans feeling disappointed, and it also understands their frustration at this special time of the year when fans look forward to attending and watching football matches."

The association stated that it aims to provide as much clarity as possible, but unfortunately sometimes there is a need to postpone the match shortly before it, especially since the priority is safety.

The association confirmed that it will keep fans informed if matches are threatened with postponement on the day they are held.

The League added: "The board has concluded that Leeds will not be able to play the match due to the number of players infected with the Corona virus. The club's training ground has also been closed after consultations between the UK's Health Security Agency and the Premier League."

Watford also continues to not have enough players to push a team, after its match against Crystal Palace, which was scheduled to be held last Saturday, was postponed due to the spread of the Corona virus.

Because the players are out of quarantine, it is fully expected that Watford will be able to play its match on December 28 against West Ham.

The association stated that the council evaluates requests to postpone matches on a case-by-case basis, based on the current rules and revised postponement guidelines for the Corona virus, which were submitted to clubs in the wake of the emergence of the Omicron mutant.

In light of the recent sharp rise in the number of people infected with the Corona virus across the country, the League has re-implemented emergency measures.

This includes protocols such as frequent testing, wearing face masks while indoors, maintaining social distancing, and reducing treatment time.
