SVT invests heavily in basketball - broadcasts several major championships

In 2022, the Women's World Cup will be played in Australia.

In 2023, the men's WC will be played in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines, while the women's EC will be played in Slovenia and Israel.

In 2025, double European Championships will be played, both ladies and men.

All these championships will be broadcast on SVT.

- The basketball championships are major international events with lots of world stars in place.

We will offer our TV viewers sports at the absolute highest level, says SVT's sports director Åsa Edlund Jönsson.

In addition to the championships, SVT has secured the rights to both the women's and men's national team's World Cup qualifiers and the men's qualifiers for the European Championships 2025.

But it will not just be national team basketball on SVT.

From the end of January 2022, ten matches from the women's and men's basketball leagues will be shown on SVT's channels, and later this spring it's time for the Swedish Championship finals for both women and men.

- Basketball is the most equal sport in Sweden, so even from that perspective, the sport fits perfectly with us at SVT, which is a world leader in equal sports coverage, says SVT's sports director Åsa Edlund Jönsson.
