Mystery surrounds the fate of the African Nations Cup in Cameroon

Doubts surround the fate of Cameroon hosting the 2022 African Nations Cup next January, after Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was unable to issue a clear statement on this issue.

"We will talk tomorrow and we will tell you what's new," Motsebe told reporters upon arrival at Nsimalen International Airport.

Motsepe is visiting Cameroon to discuss the fate of the postponed tournament with the football authorities in the country and with President Paul Biya, which is scheduled to be held from January 9 to February 6.

The date of the end of the African Nations Cup coincides with the start of the Club World Cup, which is scheduled to start on the third of next February.

The Egyptian club, Al-Ahly, the African champion, complained about the possibility of the absence of ten players to join the teams of their countries, which will reduce the team's chances in the tournament that will be held in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.

Concerns about the spread of the Corona virus in several regions of Cameroon led to proposals to postpone the tournament again.

But several former stars of Cameroonian football, including Samuel Eto'o, the current president of the Football Association there, want the tournament to be held as scheduled.
