The auction of goods belonging to the legend of Argentine football Diego Maradona aroused, this Sunday, only a timid interest.

Many lots have remained without a buyer, like cars or a house he had given to his parents.

Almost 90 lots were offered in international online auctions, from a hotel in Buenos Aires.

There were goods as diverse as a tie, caps, sneakers, a house, two BMW cars, a cigar humidor, televisions, with prices ranging from $ 50 to $ 900,000 ($ 44 to $ 800,000). euros).

Around 23,000 euros of lots sold

In total, the sale only raised around $ 26,000 (23,000 euros) while goods with a total value of 1.42 million dollars (1.26 million euros) remained without a buyer. Among these is the 700 m² house with swimming pool, which Maradona bought in the 1980s from her parents, in the residential area of Villa Devoto in Buenos Aires, and where they have lived for over 30 years. Or an apartment in the seaside town of Mar del Plata.

The largest batch that has left is a painting by an Argentinian artist representing Maradona, half player, half angel, wearing the Argentinian flag, and entitled

Between Fiorito and the sky

(named after Villa Fiorito, the slum where the legend of the Argentine football grew up).

The painting was acquired for 2,150 dollars (1,910 euros).

A photo of Maradona with the former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, to whom he was close, who lived for several years in Cuba, left with a buyer from Dubai, for 1,600 dollars (1,423 euros).

Debts to repay

But in total, the three-hour sale, which had started strong from the first batches, with higher bids for Naples or Argentina jerseys (without it being clear whether Maradona had worn them), then ended. extinct, despite the participation of about 1,500 people, from South America but also from Europe, Dubai. A sluggishness contrasting with the spectacular enthusiasm, across Argentina, for the tributes of the first anniversary of the death of the "Pibe de oro", on November 25th.

“The auctions are like that, you can't know the result until the end.

We expected a lot but the reality is that you never know, ”commented auctioneer Adrian Mercado at the end of the sale.

The auctions, organized by the courts, focused on goods selected by the heirs of Maradona, without much emotional or intimate value.

Their profits were not to be divided between them, but were to be used to pay debts and miscellaneous costs, notably inheritance, left by the champion who died at the age of 60.
