The pre-favorite Norway, against whom Sweden played a draw in the group stage, will meet the newly-crowned Olympic champion France in the final of the World Handball Championship on Sunday.

Norway took a clear victory against Spain on Friday night after having the upper hand in almost the entire match.

That was not the case in the first semifinal.

There, Denmark - which on the women's side was a major nation in handball between 1996 and 2004, when the country, among other things, became Olympic champions three times in a row - was snubbed in the final place with a meager goal difference.

This after the French goalkeeper Cleopatre Darleux stopped the Danish edge shot that could have meant 23-23 and extra time.

- I really had the feeling that we would be in the final.

We played a fantastic tournament and deserved it.

I can not be proud right now, says the Danish star Line Haugsted after the match.

The final between Norway and France will be played at 5.30 pm on Sunday.

The teams last met in the final of the European Championships 2020, where the Norwegians won 22-20.

But in the World Cup 2017, France was the stronger team and won 23-21.

Denmark meets Spain in the bronze match at 14.30 on Sunday.
