The spread of the coronavirus has increased around the world in recent times.

One of the sports leagues that has been hit the hardest is the NHL.

Several ice hockey matches have been canceled due to the team having so many infected players.

19 Calgary players infected

On Friday night, the league announced that all matches with Calgary, Colorado and Florida will be canceled until Christmas.

The announcement affects no less than 13 matches.

The worst affected of the team is Calgary, which has no less than 19 players infected.

As many as five of these are Swedish players: Mikael Backlund, Rasmus Andersson, Jacob Markström, Oliver Kylington and Elias Lindholm.

Erik Karlsson Olympic hesitant

Tonight's announcement sheds even more light on the question mark surrounding the NHL players' participation in this winter's Beijing Olympics.

As recently as yesterday, San Jose defender Erik Karlsson said that he believes he will stay home from the Olympics.

- Everyone knows how much I love playing for the Olympics and how much I like the Olympics, but right now it does not seem to be feasible.

I, who have a family, can not take that risk.

"I think it's unfortunate, and there are many others who probably feel the same way, even though I have not talked to too many," he told San Jose Hockey Now.
