Algeria coach Majid Bougherra explained the readiness of the duo, Baghdad Bounedjah and Youssef Belaili, to face hosts Qatar in the Arab Cup semi-finals tomorrow, Wednesday.

Bougherra told Algerian television, "The six days of the FIFA protocol for the player Baghdad Bounedjah, who was injured in the head, was over, as it was not possible to risk him against Morocco in the last match," stressing that the Al-Sadd striker is ready to meet Qatar.

Bounedjah, 30, left the hospital after undergoing tests, affected by a joint ball with Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy during the two teams' confrontation at the end of the group stage.

Bounedjah collided with El-Shennawy in the first half, but he got up and walked normally, before the coach replaced him with Baqra at half-time with Al-Arabi Soudani, and the player was taken to the hospital to undergo tests.

Bougherra said that Blaili does not suffer from any worrisome injury after he was transferred to a hospital after the Morocco match.

Blaili participated normally in Algeria's training session on Monday in Doha.

Bougherra expressed his satisfaction with the Greens' journey in the Arab Cup so far, especially since the team gathered only one week before the start of the tournament, adding that the players of the first team participating in the tournament benefited greatly from the Arab Cup matches, which is one of the goals of the national team from this competition.

There is great optimism in Algeria about the ability of Blaili's colleagues to overcome the obstacle of the Qatar team and reach the Arab Cup final.

Algeria qualified for the semi-finals after winning 5-3 on penalties over Morocco after the end of regular and extra time with a 2-2 draw in an exciting match last Saturday.

Qatar will face an unusual test for the Asian champions when it collides with Algeria.

Qatar won its four matches in the tournament, but it achieved all these victories against Asian competitors, and the draw prevented it from facing any African team before meeting Algeria.

Team play is Algeria's weapon against Qatar

In a related context, Algeria coach Bougherra is aware of the importance of having more than one player in his ranks in the Qatar Stars League, but he believes that team play is the key to his plan against Qatar, and that it is the approach that will make the difference in the end in the tournament.

The Algerian squad includes more than one player from the Qatari league, the most important of whom are the attacking trio of Baghdad Bounedjah from Al Sadd, Youssef Blaili of Qatar SC, and Yassine Brahimi of Al Rayyan.

Bougherra told reporters last Tuesday, "Certainly, it is important for the coach to know the competing players and to know the competing teams in all their details. Qatar knows many of our players in the Qatari league, and this is a very important point."

He added, "Football depends on these details related to the opponent and the most accurate details of strengths and weaknesses."

He continued, "We are one step away from the final, and whoever has the greatest desire and who will make the greatest effort will be the one who will advance."

Algeria did not lose in 4 matches in the tournament, as it won in the first two rounds against Sudan and Lebanon, then drew 1-1 with Egypt, before drawing 2-2 with Morocco in a strong confrontation and clinching qualification on penalties.

Bougherra said, "We forgot the Morocco match, which was already past. The players have returned to their focus and regained their physical fitness, and now our focus is on the Qatar match."

"We play every match as if it were the final, with the same respect for the opponent, and God willing, we hope to be ready for the match and reach the final," he added.

The winner of the final will play against Egypt or Tunisia next Saturday.
