According to information from the Toronto Star, the International Olympic Committee has issued new information regarding covid-19 for athletes who will participate in the Olympics in Beijing.

The report says that it may be relevant with a five-week long quarantine in the event of a positive test for corona.

If it becomes relevant, Tre Kronor's national team captain, Johan Garpenlöv, believes that it can be difficult to get players there.

- If it happens now, we will see in the future.

The last word is probably not said about it.

But who is prepared to be quarantined for five weeks if that should happen?

Then we talk about both NHL and European players, Garpenlöv says to SVT and continues:

- If it were to be the case that they come to that, I wonder if we will get players to get there at all.

Still uncertain about NHL players in Beijing

"The last word is probably not said"

Garpenlöv and Tre Kronor are already working with two parallel teams before the Olympics.

The NHL has allowed players to participate in the Winter Olympics, unlike the 2018 Olympics. But there is a clause that allows them to prevent players in case the situation with covid-19 would worsen.

If matches in the NHL need to be postponed due to covid-related reasons, the league can choose to stop the players from the Olympics.

Then it may be relevant with players from SHL and Europe.

- I have a hard time seeing that employers in Sweden see their best players disappear for five weeks.

If they were to get a positive coronal test.

But five weeks in China if you get a positive test, I do not think anyone is interested in.
