UEFA re-draws the draw for the Champions League round of 16 after a technical error

The European Football Association announced today, Monday, that the draw for the round of sixteen of the European Champions League will be re-drawn, after the withdrawal process witnessed a “technical error” today.

UEFA stated: "Following a technical problem with the third-party service provider's program responsible for directing the officials (participating in the drawing of the lottery) for qualified teams to face each other, an error occurred in the draw for the round of 16 of the Champions League."

UEFA added that the draw will be repeated at 1400 GMT today (6 pm Emirates time), without revealing other details about the technical glitch that rarely occurs.

It is related to Manchester United's position against Villarreal, which is not allowed by the rules of the tournament, as the two teams cannot meet in the round of 16 after they met in the group stage, and the drawing was re-drawn during the draw that drew Manchester City against Villarreal.

UEFA then announced the return of the lottery, as it seems that the ball bearing the name Manchester United was not in the container of the teams qualified to face Atletico Madrid.
