This was reported on the Formula 1 website.

Mercedes complained about the race restart procedure.

Allegedly, there was a violation of the clause of the regulations, according to which in the case of a team returning to the same lap with the leaders behind the safety car, the race can be resumed only if all the riders do so.

In Abu Dhabi, only four cars were allowed to return to the circle with the leaders.

However, by decision of the judges, the FIA racing director has full authority to direct the actions of the safety car.

Thus, the results of the race remained in force, and Verstappen retained the championship title.

Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, thanks to which he scored 395.5 points in the individual competition and became the world champion for the first time in his career.

Seven-time title holder British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton scored 387.5 points and was second.

Before the final race in Abu Dhabi, the pilots had the same number of points.

Thus, the fight for the first place was decided only at the final stage of the season.

Earlier, the FIA rejected Mercedes' first protest at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
