When she reached the goal, Alina Reh was overwhelmed by tears.

At the European Cross Country Championship in Dublin, the 24-year-old ran for bronze.

After 8000 meters, the runner from the Swabian Alb, who started for SSC Berlin, only had to let Norwegian Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal (26:34) and Swede Meraf Bahta (26:44) go in 26:53 minutes.

"I had two really tough years", Alina Reh summed up.

"I was injured, I missed the Olympics, so this medal means a lot to me."

19 seconds behind her Konstanze Klosterhalfen was fifth (27:12). “I'll stand at the start line and just start running,” the 24-year-old German top runner had previously said: “Cross-country skiing is something carefree.” And so she acted cheerfully from the beginning, running in the leading group until one and a half laps before the end even seemed to have a chance for the title. In the end, however, she couldn't keep up and fell behind.

And although she missed the individual medal, Konstanze Klosterhalfen could ultimately be satisfied.

Because together with Domenika Mayer, who finished 21st in the individual in 28:47 minutes, the German trio secured second place in the team competition behind the British women, which were closed as a team.

“Our goal was to win a medal.

Now it's silver.

We are very grateful and proud, ”said Alina Reh.
