• Electric car "Seat Martorell will make small Cupra and Skoda electrics in 2025"

  • Public aid The EU gives the green light to the Automotive PERTE with 3,000 million

"In the Iberian Peninsula, it is planned to build compact electric vehicles at the Martorell multi-brand plant and electric SUVs at the Pamplona multi-brand plant from 2025."

This is what Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen group, just said at a press conference that takes place in Wolfsburg (Germany), the company's headquarters.

The

novelty

is that, according to Diess said,

Pamplona would make electric SUVs

, although these would be small among the current

Taigo

and

T-Cross

that it does now but in a battery-powered version.

The investment in Landaben would not be very high and this new electric vehicle would be introduced in the same line where Polo, Taigo and T-Cross are now made.

However, he also recalled that

"the final decision depends on the general conditions and government incentives"

, thereby continuing to pressure the Government of Pedro Sánchez to bring the Council of Ministers once and for all, the bases of the PERTE of automotive.

According to the Ministry of Industry, they confirm that this will happen before the end of the year.

However, industry sources assure that everything is ready for small electric vehicles to be made in Spain from 2025 as

EL MUNDO announced

last September.

In addition, from the ministry that Reyes Maroto pilots, they recall that the

European Commission has approved this Thursday 3,000 million euros

in aid for the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation

(PERTE) of the electric and connected vehicle.

It is the first of its kind to be implemented in the European Union and, for weeks now, and with this approval from the EU, now there is the publication of the call with the bases for its application.

When the Ministry of Industry presented the master lines of this plan, in July, it assured that the call would

open in the third quarter of 2021 to have chosen the winning projects in February 2022

.

Deadlines that will clearly fall short.

Hence

the pressure exerted by Diess on

the Government, the same

pressure being applied

by the entire Spanish automotive sector, including the automotive component industry.

Volkswagen conditions said aid to

the installation of the battery factory

planned for Spain and which would supply the electric vehicles made in Martorell and Landaben.

Martorell and Landaben

As Wayne Griffiths already announced, during the IAA Mobility in Munich,

"Martorell will manufacture in 2025 the smallBEV project models of Cupra and Skoda

and the Cupra will be the first of all".

The project that the Volkswagen Group calls smallBEV has been developed on the small MEB platform of the German consortium and contemplates the manufacture of small electric cars of the group's generalist brands (VW, Skoda and Seat) in Spain.

Ralf Brandstatter

, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and future head of Volkswagen Group operations in China, also confirmed at the same meeting that

the Volkswagen ID.2 will be made at the Volkswagen plant from 2025.

From the MEB platform, it will be Seat who develops all the bodies of the different models of the brands.

For now, they will be cars for Cupra, Skoda and Volkswagen.

Audi will not have a 100% electric Audi A1 made in Martorell as the combustion model of the brand with the rings is done until now.
