The National Road Transport Committee (CNTC) will maintain the lockout for December 20, 21 and 22, as announced in a statement after meeting this Thursday with representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

As explained by the employer, during the meeting the Ministry has presented a new document of proposals that, although they represent some progress, "is far" from the objectives set by the business organization.

"Assuming a certain advance with respect to the previous document, it is still far from the objectives of the CNTC, in terms of improving the working conditions of drivers, as well as an immediate economic lung for professionals and companies," said the employer in a release.

The CNTC has emphasized that these measures be introduced through a legislative procedure of "extreme speed", in view of "the critical situation and urgent need that the sector is going through."

The Government proposed to the employers in the previous meeting a series of measures, among which the limitation was proposed so that the truck drivers do not load and unload it, but without actually prohibiting it, something that it also proposed for the revision of prices of the diesel, which the government also limits but does not prohibit.

Among the rest of the proposals forwarded by the Government to the CNTC, rejected for now, there is also a written commitment that no tolls will be introduced to carriers without the consensus of the sector, within the framework of the extent to which the Executive to implement pay-per-use on highways from 2024.

It also increases the height and maximum mass allowed in certain trucks, offers 20 million euros in aid to build secure private parking areas, 400 million for the renewal of fleets and 143 million for digitization and digital training, although all this it was already foreseen in the programs of the Ministry.

The president of the International Road Transport Association (Astic), Marcos Basante, explained that the negotiations raised some issues related to the legal approach to any measure proposed by the Government.

"We noticed an advance compared to the previous meeting with Mitma, although it is still too early to draw firm conclusions," Basante added.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, appeared to show "her concern for the state of the sector, her knowledge of the problems exposed in this negotiation and her willingness to reach an agreed solution."
