Mbappe explains why he gave up the penalty kick for PSG

French star Kylian Mbappe said that the French team Paris Saint-Germain "will need Lionel Messi", when explaining why he gave up a penalty kick that would have completed his hat-trick against Club Brugge on Tuesday in the Champions League.

Mbappe scored a double for Paris Saint-Germain during the first seven minutes of the match against its guest Club Brugge on Tuesday in the last sixth round of the Champions League matches, and the confrontation ended with Saint-Germain winning 4/1.

Mbappe scored the third goal for PSG, which Messi scored in the 38th minute.

Although the 22-year-old had the opportunity to complete his hat-trick, the French star did not apply for a penalty kick for Saint-Germain in the 76th minute, but Messi scored his second and fourth goal for the team.

Mbappe said that the most important thing for him to get the match ball because of scoring a hat-trick, was giving Messi the penalty kick, as the Argentine star is in the building phase and boosting confidence at the beginning of his life in France, after many years spent in the ranks of Barcelona.

Mbappe said after the match: "We will need Lionel Messi. He is still Lionel Messi. We will need him during the season, and I am sure he will help us when the important matches come."

He added: "He has to enter with confidence in these matches. It was good for him to finish the game with two goals, but it is also good for us for the future."

Mbappe indicated that he cared more about the general interest of the team than his personal goals, and he praised the role of his colleagues in the strong performances he made this season.

Mbappe scored 11 goals and assisted 12 goals in 22 matches in all competitions during this season so far.

Mbappe said in statements to RMC Sport: "I try to help the team. My goal is not to show who is the first person. I try to help the team, and my colleagues give this back to me, so I'm doing well."
