The matches of the first day of the last round of the Champions League group stage ended with shocking results for Italian football, as Real Madrid beat Inter 2-0, and Liverpool beat Milan 2-1.

Real Madrid ended their campaign in the group stage by defeating Inter Milan 2-0 with the double of Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio, while the guests played with ten players after Nicolo Parilla was sent off on Tuesday.

The two teams have already qualified for the final price round, and Real Madrid won 15 points from 6 matches, 5 points ahead of Inter, who finished second.

Kroos scored the first goal in the 17th minute with a low shot from a distance of 20 metres, and although Inter were the best in the first half, Rodrygo was close to adding the second goal for the hosts when the post returned his attempt before the break.

And Barilla fired a shot over the crossbar from a distance of 12 meters at the beginning of the second half.

Inter goalkeeper Samir Handović saved Luka Jovic's shot from a difficult angle before German referee Felix Brych showed Barilla a direct red card in the 64th minute.

The Italian midfielder slapped his shoulder with the Brazilian Rodrigo before the touch line, hit the barriers and then hit his opponent's arm and leg while he was on the ground.

Inter retreated and substitute Asensio made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute with a superb shot from the edge of the penalty area that hit the post before settling into the net.

In the second half, Inter suffered a strong blow, represented by the expulsion of their midfielder Nicolo Parilla in the 64th minute, so that the Royal Club took advantage of the numerical shortage in its guest ranks and scored the second goal by Marco Asensio in the 79th minute.

Real Madrid topped Group D with 15 points from 5 victories and one defeat, while Inter came second with 10 points from 3 victories, one draw and two defeats.

The perfect Liverpool oust Milan

Liverpool made up for their delay to knock Milan out of the Champions League after winning 2-1 at the San Siro on Tuesday, as goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi led a squad of second-tier players in the English team to end the group stage with a perfect record.

Milan needed to win to cling to the chance of qualifying for the round of 16 and advanced through English defender Fikayo Tomori in the first half.

But Salah quickly equalized the result, scoring his 20th goal this season in all competitions, and Origi scored the second goal for Liverpool with a header after the break.

Jurgen Klopp's team became the first English club to win all of its group stage matches in the Champions League in one season, as it finished top of Group B with 18 points.

Milan ranked last with 4 points in its first participation in the Champions League since the 2013-2014 season, while Atletico Madrid beat Porto 3-1 in the other match to reach the final price, after taking second place with 7 points, two points ahead of its Portuguese rival.
