After Anders Ygeman was presented as the new Minister of Sports, critical voices have been raised from both opposition politicians and high-profile sports journalists that his portfolio is too large.

This also includes integration and migration, two of the government's most prioritized areas.

How much time will you really have for sports issues?

- Quite a lot of time.

Because I do not think there is any stronger force in society where people with so many different backgrounds meet as equals as in sports.

It is perhaps the strongest integration engine we have, says Anders Ygeman.

Opens for more investments in vulnerable areas

At the same time, figures from RF show that it is in vulnerable areas that club sports have the most difficulty reaching.

Doesn't that speak against the idea of strong integration power?

- No, because there are really many people there who get involved in sports.

But we also need to get those numbers up.

Therefore, targeted investments have been made from both politics and sports to engage people in vulnerable areas.

I do not close doors because further efforts may be required.

What are the stakes?

- Spaces for spontaneous sports both outdoors and indoors and more sports facilities can be such things that make it easier for people to apply for sports and try new sports.

The statement about the crime: "I think she was tired"

The connection between sports and integration is something Anders Ygeman has returned to many times in the past week.

But the reactions became strong after the new Minister of Culture Jeanette Gustafsdotter (S) was asked in P1 Kultur about how it feels not to - like her predecessor Amanda Lind - be responsible for sports.

The Minister of Culture replied: "(...) There is also a lot of crime in sports, and that is why they chose to move it."

What did you think of that statement?

- It was probably not so successful and she has also expressed it herself.

There is crime in sport as in all other sectors of society.

But sport is above all a hobby that creates joy in people and makes a great contribution to public health, says Anders Ygeman.

But what do you think she meant by that then?

- I think above all she was tired, which she herself expressed, after doing lots of interviews in a row.

But it is clear that if you want to access match-fixing, if you want to access gang crime and such, it is a bonus that sports have their domicile here at the Ministry of Justice.
