Two days before a crucial match against Stade Rennais in the Europa League Conference, this is bad news for the Tottenham club.

According to several English media, six players and two members of the staff of Spurs have tested positive for Covid-19.

PCR tests would be underway to confirm the first results, specifies the PA press agency, recalling that there had been two cases of "false positives" among Spurs in mid-October.

The holding of the match itself is not threatened, a team must have less than 13 able-bodied players to forfeit.

A decisive meeting for the Spurs

But the meeting is crucial for Tottenham.

Currently second in group G of the Europa Conference Conference behind Rennes, already qualified and guaranteed to finish first, the club coached by Antonio Conte is neck and neck with the Dutch at Vitesse Arnhem, who host the Slovenes of Mura, last and eliminated.

To qualify for the round of 16, Spurs absolutely must do at least as good a result as their rivals.

These cases of Covid-19 could also have repercussions on the championship matches to come, in Brighton, Sunday, then against Leicester on Thursday, and Liverpool, the following Sunday, while Spurs have just returned to the race for the C1 with three wins in a row in the Premier League.

Asked by PA, the club had made no comment at midday.
