Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said his team needed patience in his talks with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah about renewing his contract.

Salah's current contract expires in June 2023, and widespread speculation has been raised about the future of the Egyptian captain, and Salah has expressed his desire to stay at Anfield, but without having reached an agreement yet with his team, Liverpool.

Salah told MBC Egypt that his future "is in the hands of the Liverpool administration, and it must settle this issue."

But Klopp confirmed today, Monday, that his club's position has not changed, and said during a press conference on the eve of Liverpool's match against its Italian host AC Milan in the Champions League, "We are fully aware of his position and we are holding talks."

He continued, "Extending the contract of a player like Mo Salah is not something that can be achieved during a cup of tea in the afternoon and reach an agreement on it."

Klopp indicated that "there is nothing else to say about Mo (Salah), he spoke about it when asked about him, I can only talk about a few things because the rest is not for publication, of course."

He added, "I do not know if he conducted the interview in English, or if it was translated from Arabic into English, and this is a big issue, as we have said in recent days."

He continued, "A lot of things can happen when a person tries to get the job done. I'm not fine, I'm fine, I think that all of our desires are clear, and things like this need time."
