The Algerian national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Arab Football Cup after beating its Lebanese counterpart 2-0 in the second round of Group D in a match that the two teams completed with ten players today, Saturday.

Algeria raised its score to six points at the top of the group, three points ahead of Egypt, which will meet later today with Sudan, while Lebanon bid farewell to the championship after losing its second successive session.

The Algerian team completed the match with ten players after Hossam El Din Mreizk was expelled in the 78th minute for obtaining a second warning, and five minutes later Lebanon played with ten players after Qassem Zain was expelled for receiving a second warning as well.

Captain Yacine Brahimi scored Algeria's first goal in the 69th minute from a penalty kick awarded by the referee after Youssef Belaili was fouled inside the penalty area.

Tayeb Meziani Al-Nitha strengthened with a ground shot from a single position in the third minute of stoppage time.

The match witnessed defensive desperation from the Lebanese team, and several missed opportunities from the Algerian attack.
