New world record by van der Poel

In Salt Lake City, Nils van der Poel went out at a leisurely pace and did not seem at all aiming to beat Ted-Jan Bloemen's world record.

But for each lap that went, the Swede increased a little on the speed.

And with one lap left, he was 19 percent ahead of the world record of 6.01.86.

van der Poel crossed the finish line in the time of 6: 01.56 and thus broke the world record.
