Lifting the international ban on the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation

The International Weightlifting Federation decided to lift the suspension of the Egyptian Federation for the game.

And the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports announced today in an official statement, "The Egyptian Weightlifting Federation received an e-mail from the International Federation of the Game, stating that the suspension of the Egyptian Federation was lifted and its right to participate in international weightlifting competitions."

The statement added that this step came "after the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Olympic Committee made intensive efforts to fulfill all requirements, which took place through several correspondences with the International Weightlifting Federation, including the payment of fines signed on the Egyptian side."

The statement stated, "The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Olympic Committee are currently intensifying their efforts regarding the speedy completion of the procedures for the participation of the Egyptian team in the World Weightlifting Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan during the period from the fifth to the 15th of this month."

In December 2019, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the suspension of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation for two years due to doping issues, preventing Egypt from participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
