Second place within the top ten for Andreas Sander, second zero number for Romed Baumann: After mixed ideas, only supporting roles remained for the German ski racers in the second Super-G at Beaver Creek.

One day after his good fourth place at the World Cup in the USA on Friday, Sander finished tenth.

But he wasn't really satisfied with it.

The Ennepetal was 1.56 seconds behind the Norwegian winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

It is “not quite the result that one hoped for”, says Sander, “but solid”.

After his strong performance from the day before, he “had to trust himself a little more”, but “couldn't get in” right from the start, said the 32-year-old.

Kilde, who has been in a relationship with Mikaela Shiffrin for several months, was cheered by fans in the finish area when he won his first victory after a cruciate ligament rupture in January.

Second was the Swiss Marco Odermatt, who had won the day before, a small gap of 0.03 seconds.

The American Travis Ganong landed third (+0.37 seconds).

As on Thursday, Romed Baumann retired after a driving error.

After the first two races of the season, the veteran is in the team of the German Ski Association (DSV) in the discipline in which he finished second at the World Championships in February, so with zero points.

Simon Jocher did not finish either.

Josef Ferstl (+2.09) took 26th place, Dominik Schwaiger did not start.

The race was interrupted for several minutes after the Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud fell badly.

At first he stayed on the slopes, but then buckled on his skis and drove down to the valley.

After the race, however, he went to the Vail clinic for an examination.

Jansrud told TV3 that it was “difficult to say” what exactly was wrong with him, but he had hurt his collarbone as well as his knee.
