It was 9-0 between Norway and Armenia when the match was interrupted due to fog - when it resumed, they could complete a double-digit result, 10-0.

In several other World Cup qualifiers, the goal difference has been large.

Now the Norwegian national team captain believes that the development in women's football is startling.

- There is a big level difference.

It is a pity for the interest that there are such big differences between the teams, says Norway's national team captain Martin Sjögren to NRK.

In over a third of all matches played so far in the World Cup qualifiers, the winning team has won by five goals or more, writes NRK.

Sjögren is concerned that the format in the qualifiers does not create sufficient competition.

- I am a bit divided in what I think, but it is clear that we want to play as even matches as possible, even in a qualifier.

We must face nations that are as good or better than us, but that is not possible when we are highest ranked in the group, says the league captain.

UEFA: 'Should do a thorough review'

As early as October, UEFA noted that something must be done to achieve a more even level of competition, says Nadine Kessler, UEFA's head of women's football.

- We will do a thorough review instead of quick solutions.

The qualification phase is still important, but that does not mean that we necessarily need to have the same format as we see with the men, Kessler says to the German AP.

In the last round of the qualifiers for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand 2023, there have been several goal-rich matches.

England beat Latvia in the World Cup qualifier 20-0.

In six matches, they have a goal difference of 53-0.

Belgium also beat Armenia 19-0, while Spain won 8-0 against Scotland.

Most recently yesterday, Sweden defeated Slovakia 3-0.
