Hamdan Sports Complex hosts elite Olympic champions to participate in “International MK” fencing

The Dubai Sports Council announced the organization of the "MK International Fencing Championship" for the epic arm, which is held in cooperation between the Dubai Sports Council and the Emirates Fencing Federation, and organized by the MK Fencing Academy in Hamdan Sports Complex on the next Friday and Saturday, and more than 100 participants, led by the champions, will participate in its competitions. Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi thanked the Dubai Sports Council for hosting the event in Hamdan Sports Complex, and said: "We in the UAE, Arab and Asian Federation support this tournament and all international tournaments that are held in the country in general and organized in Dubai in particular, and the interest of the Dubai Sports Council in this tournament is Evidence of their leadership in supporting the Olympic Games, which achieves the vision of the wise leadership in advancing the Olympic Games in the country, especially the sport of fencing.”

Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi added: "Organizing an international tournament in Dubai and hosting international players who have an international program and have international achievements will give our players the opportunity to interact with these professional players and benefit from their experiences. I thank the media for their presence and support for the tournament and the activities of the Emirates Fencing Federation."

Saeed Hareb expressed his happiness for organizing this tournament, which represents an important addition to the agenda of sporting events, especially as it is attached to an important Olympic sport, and the tournament includes elite medal holders in the Tokyo Olympics. Annually many major international events, the most recent of which was the largest version of the World Karate Championships, which was held from 16 to 21 November 2021, with the participation of more than 1,000 male and female athletes from 117 countries.

For his part, Mikhail Kozhev thanked the Dubai Sports Council, the Emirates Federation and Hamdan Complex for their support and efforts to make this event a success and the success of all fencing tournaments, and for hosting the permanent Hamdan Complex for the MK Academy and fencing tournaments throughout the year.

Three Olympic champions will participate in fencing, most notably Romanian Anna Maria Popescu, ranked second in the world, the silver medalist in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 10 gold medals in the World Fencing Championships and 50 colored medals in various international and world championships, in addition to the Estonian Katerina Lehis, ranked fifth in the world, is the winner of the team gold and individual bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and the gold of the world championships and many other colorful medals, and Ukrainian Igor Rizlin, ranked third in the world, also works as a fencing coach, and is a bronze medalist in the Olympics. Tokyo 2020 and two gold medals at the World Fencing Championships in Switzerland 2019 and Kazan 2021.

Abdullah Shahdad, director of Hamdan Sports Complex, said: "Hamdan Complex hosts more than 50 events annually, including 20 international championships, and is home to more than 20 academies, including the fencing academy organizing the championship."
