The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, inaugurated the tenth session of the Arab Cup today, at Al Bayt Stadium in the capital, Doha, after nine years of stopping.

The official opening ceremony of the tournament kicked off before the Qatar-Bahrain match with a huge artistic and musical show, in the presence of Arab and foreign presidents and officials, including Lebanese Presidents Michel Aoun and Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas, and Swiss President Gianni Infantino, FIFA.

For his part, Infantino commented with a brief word, calling for work "together" to make the tournament a success, using the word in Arabic.

The Arab Cup returns with its new dress after an absence of nine years, with sixteen Qatari teams hosting six of the eight World Cup stadiums.

For the first time, the Arab Cup will be held under the umbrella of the International Federation (FIFA), in finals that will serve as a mini-rehearsal for the World Cup, which will be hosted by the small, gas-rich Gulf state at the end of 2022 for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab world.

The fans flocked in large numbers to the stadium, which is the largest in the tournament, and the second largest in the eight World Cup stadiums, with a capacity of 60,000 spectators.
