The two-day Spartan Agoji Challenge kicked off in the Liwa Desert, a few days before the start of the Spartan World Championship, which is being hosted by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for the first time in the Middle East, as it is one of the sporting events and activities accompanying the World Championship.

The Spartan Aguji Challenge is one of the toughest ever endurance challenges, with a duration of 60 hours, during which participants face a number of physical and mental obstacles, in addition to trying to search for water and food resources.

The participants took on the challenge in the Empty Quarter, the largest sand desert in the world, and learned how to survive among the sand dunes.

The participants in the challenge were divided into teams, where each team works collectively in order to be able to overcome obstacles and difficult paths to the end.

The challenge participants crossed 50 kilometers inside the sand dunes of the Empty Quarter desert amid great difficulties, to reach the most difficult obstacles that await them on the second day of the challenge, which ends on Tuesday (11-30), while 4 participants withdrew due to the inability to complete the challenge.

For his part, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Suhail Al-Arifi, said: "The Spartan Aguji Challenge is one of the most difficult endurance challenges in the world, and its first-time event in the country before the start of the Spartan World Championship paves the way for the competitors in the championship to explore its paths and difficulties."

He added, "Abu Dhabi's hosting of the 2021 Spartan World Championship for the first time outside the United States of America and in the Middle East comes as a continuation of the successes it has achieved as the capital of global sports and as a destination for elite athletes worldwide in various sports."

He stressed that Abu Dhabi is keen to present an exceptional and impressive version of the World Spartan Championship, pointing out that the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in cooperation with Spartan International, was keen to harness all the ingredients for success for the upcoming global event, for which organizational plans have been prepared to produce it in a distinctive style that keeps pace with the prestigious international reputation of Abu Dhabi and its leadership in organizing Big events.
