In 2019, Kvarnby IK, which between 2010 and 2018 played in division 2, finished last in division 3 southern Götaland - with only one victory in 22 matches.

A few months after the season, the team's goalkeeper was arrested - and later both prosecuted and convicted in the district court.

The criminal classifications were gambling fraud and bribery.

"We could lead ... '

According to the district court's ruling, the goalkeeper, who was recruited to the club before the season to contribute with a routine and act as a "father" for the young team, had on six occasions received money - a total of SEK 45,000 - to ensure that the team would lose.

And that it was that way - it was a shock for the governing people in the club.

- It was a bit strange, because we played good football, and we thought the guys were better than the result.

We could lead matches, and then all of a sudden we lost them pang-bom and very big, says the association's chairman Ann Åhman, in the SVT series "Kvarnbyfallet", which describes what happened.

"Such an incredible betrayal"

Players and leaders of the team also participate in SVT Sports' documentary series.

And there are many who feel let down after what happened.

- I feel that it is a betrayal of his teammates, that it is a betrayal of the associations that they have then represented during this time, says Ulf Jansson, who is the coach of the team now, but during the current season another team trained in same series, and continues:

- I think it's tough against everyone who put in a lot of time to win the matches.

It's both leaders and it's parents and it's young people and players in general.

- Then I think it feels strange that you sit in a locker room together and want to win a match, and then there are some who may not want it then enough.

The goalkeeper denied throughout the police investigation and the trial.

He has refused to participate in the series, but denies through his lawyer Henrik Timan all accusations.

"He has not received any bribes and he has not underperformed in his role as a player for Kvarnby IK.

He thinks it is sad that people feel disappointed, but does not share their view of what happened ".

Both parties appealed the district court's rulings.

The Court of Appeal hearings begin today, November 29.
