This afternoon, the Swedish men's soccer national team will be drawn in the upcoming playoff game in March, where it will be decided which three teams will advance to the World Cup in Qatar next year.

In Blågult, there are seven warning-laden Swedes who risk suspension in a possible final.

Something that the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) has tried to change.

In November, they joined forces with Norway and Finland and appealed to the International Football Association, Fifa, that the warnings from the World Cup qualifiers should be zeroed in the playoffs - but were rejected.

- We think it is unreasonable and erode the principle of fair play.

It has to do with the fact that there have been different numbers of matches in the groups.

Group A to E played eight matches and group F to J played ten, says Håkan Sjöstrand.

He continues:

- When we look at it, there are upwards of 110 players who bring yellow cards into the playoff game and risk missing a decisive playoff match.

"Every team wants it"

Last week, the Swedish Football Association chose to take the matter further to the European Football Association (Uefa), which is responsible for the playoffs.

After the nations that will participate have their say, the situation seems to have brightened.

- These twelve teams have agreed that accumulated yellow cards should be reset before the playoffs, says Sjöstrand.

- Now Uefa will take the matter further to Fifa.

Fifa will then make a decision on the matter.

But now there are conditions because all teams want it this way.

Nothing is clear yet but there is some hope.

Zlatan remains suspended

However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Emil Krafth, who each issued a second warning against Spain, will continue to be suspended even in the event of a rule change.

- I raised it at a meeting with Uefa last Thursday.

Then we came to the conclusion that we must compromise.

We thought suspensions should also be deleted, but now these twelve countries have agreed that suspensions will follow and yellow cards will be deleted.

TT: When can the rule change be approved?

- The qualifier is in March so our hope is that it will not be in the too distant future.

We hope that they are sensitive to the playoff teams' overall perception, says Sjöstrand.
