Trainer Roger Schmidt cannot welcome any players from the infirmary on Thursday evening in the important Europa League match with Sturm Graz.

Philipp Max has still not been tested negative for the corona virus and the match in Eindhoven also comes too early for players such as Cody Gakpo, Jordan Teze and Noni Madueke.

Left back Max tested positive for the coronavirus last week and is in quarantine.

The German may only rejoin the group if he can submit a negative test, which is not yet the case.

The injured Teze and Gakpo are not yet fit enough to make their comeback against Sturm Graz.

"They are on the right track. I expect they will be able to strengthen the team again next week or the week after," Schmidt said at his press conference on Wednesday.

In addition to Max, Gakpo and Teze, Eran Zahavi, Madueke and Ryan Thomas are not available (for now).

In addition, Maxi Romero will be out of circulation for a few weeks due to a muscle injury.

The Argentine attacker came in just before time in the past three PSV competition matches.

He is expected to be back on the field "before Christmas".

'We showed against Vitesse that we can play football well'

For the home game with Sturm Graz, Schmidt is holding on to PSV's strong performance last Saturday in the home game against Vitesse.

The battered Eindhoven players made a good impression, especially in the first half and won 2-0.

"We showed against Vitesse that we can play football well," said Schmidt, who is happy that his team finally kept the goal clean.

"The players were focused and very sharp in defence. We kept a clean sheet because of that, and that's exactly what we were going for. That's a good step."

The match between PSV and Sturm Graz starts on Thursday at 9 p.m. in the Philips Stadium.

The people of Eindhoven have to win to keep a good chance of wintering in the Europa League.

The first meeting in Austria was won 1-4 by Schmidt's team.

"Sturm Graz plays aggressively and is sharp on the ball. They showed this clearly in the matches against AS Monaco and Real Sociedad. We have analyzed the matches and we know what to expect. This is our last chance and we are looking looking forward to getting it. We have to win," said Schmidt.
