Jonna Sundling got a nightmare start to the season when she fell in the sprint competition in Gällivare this weekend.

She injured her left hand and was rushed to hospital.

After the first X-ray, however, there was a reassuring message that there was no fracture.

Now the national team comes with new information that it is a ligament injury, which results in Sundling being forced to go plastered for four weeks.

─ A ligament that was torn off in the case in Gällivare was found there.

No skeletal damage.

After careful consideration, the decision is plastering and conservative treatment, according to Jan Wall, who is medically responsible for the Swedish cross-country national team.

The planned plaster period is now four weeks where a new clinical assessment will be made after 2 weeks, says doctor Jan Wall in a press release.

"There is only one way forward"

The World Cup premieres this weekend in Ruka.

How many competitions Sundling will miss is still unclear.

─ There is only one way, and it is forward.

I will be able to do a lot of alternative training and feel calm in it.

I'm not speculating when I can start competing again.

It turns out, says Jonna Sundling.

The 26-year-old, who won double World Cup gold in Oberstdorf earlier this year, says that she draws inspiration from Sarah Sjöström who recovered from her elbow injury and took Olympic silver in Tokyo.

Sj Sarah Sjöström is already a role model.

In the situation I have ended up in now, I am even more inspired by Sarah and what she has done.

Sarah decided immediately after her injury to accept the situation and do everything she could.

And she managed to take Olympic silver.

I have dealt with setbacks earlier in my career and know that I can fight back relatively quickly, if I think positively, and do the job I can.

I replenish with energy from my progress in the healing process and things that make me feel joy and happiness even alongside the competition track, says Jonna Sundling.
