Syria squad for the Arab Cup

The temporary committee of the Syrian Football Association announced the formation of the Syrian national team, which will participate in the tenth Arab Cup, which will be held in Qatar, starting at the end of this month.


The squad included 15 professional players and eight locals: Ibrahim Alama (Jableh), Taha Musa, Dia Al-Haq (Al-Wehda), Muhammad Rihaniya, Khaled Hajji Othman (Al-Ittihad), Saad Ahmed (Al-Wathba), Kamel Hamisheh (Tishreen), Amr Janiyat (Al-Karama) and Omar Al-Somah (Al-Ahly of Saudi Arabia). The Syrian team will be led by the new Romanian coach, Tita Valero, to succeed former coach Nizar Mahrous.


It is expected that Tita will arrive in Damascus next Tuesday to officially take over the mission.


Tita had previously led Al-Ittihad Al-Halabi team to win the 2010 AFC Cup. He also led the Syrian team for a short period for two weeks in the Asian Nations Championship in Qatar 2011, in which the Syrian team was eliminated from the first round after beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 and losing to Japan and Jordan 1-2 .


Syria came in the second group along with the teams of the Emirates, Tunisia and Mauritania.
