Second in the world championship, Lewis Hamilton won the first Qatari Grand Prix in the history of Formula 1 this Sunday, and is eight points behind leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull), second in Doha.
Starting from pole position, Hamilton was not worried by the comeback of Verstappen, who started from seventh place, nor by Fernando Alonso (Alpine), who signed his first podium of the year.
Only two races remain on the program, in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi in December.
A thrilling end of the season
It is the second consecutive victory, after Brazil, the seventh this season and the 102nd of a career for Hamilton, who is aiming for a record eighth world crown.
"We can do it," said Hamilton, still in his car, while the boss of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, gave "an appointment" in Saudi Arabia.
Verstappen, who is aiming for a first title this year, finished the 57 laps 25.7 seconds behind the seven-time world champion, but obtained the point for the best lap on the track.
"We started very well, we quickly came back to second position and in the end, to have this fastest lap, it's very good," he reacted.
